Behind every great Americans success story, stands a united family. The Nguyen’s is an example of a hard-working Asian family that has built a thriving restaurant and food service business. Tuyen Nguyen left Vietnam and immigrated to San Diego in 1985. While studying English as a second language, Tuyen Nguyen started a small beef noodle soup restaurant known as Phở Hoa Cali located on University Ave in San Diego.
In 1989, Tuyen Nguyen, built his business based on a new concept; to bring the traditional Vietnamese cuisine to the modern day people. Tuyen brought traditional Vietnamese ”Phở Bò” Rice Noodle Beef Soup, “Bún Bò Huế” Rice Noodles & Spicy Beef Soup w/ Pork Leg, Well-Done Steak, Tendon & Pork Blood, “Bò Kho” Beef Stew, “Cơm Tấm” Broken Rice with (BBQ Pork, BBQ Beef, and BBQ Chicken) onto the menu.
Phở HoaCali attracts a diverse crowd of people from traditional Vietnamese-Americans to people of all races that can enjoy the authentic Vietnamese cuisine.
The concept that Phở Hoa Cali followed has proven to be a success. This success has led Phở Hoa Cali to become one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in San Diego, because of Mr. Nguyen. In 2009 Phở Hoa Cali changed its name to Phở Cow Cali and trademarked it to become a future franchise.
Phở Cow Cali’s strong growth, combined with a commitment to the communities it serves, has been recognized by the Small Business Administration. An award was presented to Phở Cow Cali as San Diego’s Best Vietnamese Restaurants by Critics’ Picks in both August 2002 and August 2003.
Beyond their business achievements, the Nguyen Family is involved heavily in the communities in which they live and work. They have contributed and helped raise additional funds for victims of the 9/11 disaster, Hurricane Katrina, the floods in Vietnam, earthquakes in Mexico, and other charitable efforts throughout the world.
With the wake of the 2004 devastating Tsunami in South East Asia, Phở Cow Cali restaurant contributed generously to the American Red Cross.
Phở Cow Cali has over 30 years of success and they have now expanded to a new location in National City. The new location is called Phở 7 Cow and they also value Tuyen’s new concept of bringing the traditional Vietnamese cuisine to the diverse community. Tuyen hopes that with the new location, more people can enjoy the great taste of Vietnamese cuisine.
